Gargoyles watch for manifests entering cities across Upper Thalia.  Manifests must roll their Eminence with a penalty of one per gargoyle to pass by a guardian checkpoint without activating them.  For example, a gate guarded by 2 gargoyles requires a Manifest of Eminence 3 to roll 1 die to pass.  If a Manifest's aura is deadened, the potency of the deadening spell adds to the defensive die pool.
