It turns out the locket belonged to Sara's ancestor. Not having an immediate need for money, we simply gifted it to her. Hopefully this will earn us some goodwill come the future. Perhaps if any choice jobs come up she can get us an inside track.
We ended up talking with the city scouts about clearing out Old Phlan. They had a rough map with some dangerous areas for us to steer clear of, and some areas where we can cut our teeth working out some tactics. After getting a pass to be able to return to the city, we ventured into the old town.
I pulled on the wolf and scouted ahead, sniffing for smells and listening for sounds that were amiss. Before too long, we uncovered a kobold lair. Poor Logru was the recipient of their warm welcome, but after a short bit, didn't seem too worse for wear. The beasts had one of their own kind in a cage named Meepo. Najila was able to talk to it. Whilst no doubt duplicitous, it didn't seem right to execute it, so we let Meepo go. It (he? not sureā¦) offered us his aid in the future after giving us some scant info on the Big Boss.
We assumed the same formation in search of other kobold dens. We managed to pick up a pair of feuding bands. After we managed to collapse a building on poor Najila, we made fairly quick work of them. Daer'ys used a table as a shield in a daring bit of frontal assault.
On the way back home, I was jumped by a ghoul. The stench of kobold must have overwhelmed my lupine senses as I didn't smell the wretched creature. It broke my concentration and forced me to return to my natural form. I felt its coldness wash over before shaking it off. The others made fairly quick work of it.
All in all, success. Perhaps bigger prey awaits.
I plan on luring down out of the sky one of the raptors that hover omnipresent over the old city. They grow fat on the rats, surely they've seen much and would have much wisdom to offer.
