Session 22: Ok... Now What?

[ Session 21 ] [ Back ] [ Session 23 ]

After cleaning out the well, we sat around for a long time discussing how to proceed. We finally decided to rest, inspect all the things we'd acquired.

When we left the well, we locked the door and reported back to town. We turned in our bounties for not much pay, we got our reward for clearing out the well area while omitting mention of the hidden base at the well.

We restocked supplies, then discussed where to go from there. Several tasks remained on the proclamations board. A lot of graveyard tasks. But there were still several sections between the cleared areas and where the graveyard was. A lot of sections jam-packed with monsters. We weren't sure we could handle these without an army. Probably not the best tasks we could be doing with our current load out.

There was Denlorn's tower, but it was surrounded by an army of monsters. Another thing we were too few and too low on firepower to handle right now.

Instead, there was: an escort mission, a task to re-establish contact with a village of sea elves, a task to establishing an outpost west of the city, and some mystery task with no information about it.

We decided that the escort mission should be about our speed. We agreed to escort the Phlan ambassador to the meeting place of the northmen.

The trek took us a week and a half or so, and we managed to arrive without incident. We all took a break in their mess hall and awaited dinner. We met Noatun, chieftan of the northmen, and his son Ian. Noatun seemed really ill. Apparently the merchant train we rode with was bringing him some sort of narcotic to help ease his pain.

We sat at the table of honor during their celebration. Noatun got up and told an ancient story of their people, wherein their tribe slew the king of the frost giants with a giant magical broadsword.

Just as he finished telling his tale, the door busted open and the angry ghost of the slain frostgiant king stormed up to Noatun, slaying him in an instant. We got a few hits off on him, nut we faded away after slaying Noatun.

Chaos ensued. Eventually everyone got themselves together. Ian was now the chieftan. The wisewomen of the tribe said it was a familial curse. They felt that we had a month before the ghost would return to slay Ian. It seemed to them that the king's remains were disturbed recently, and that was why he began doing this.

Ian told us that if we could take care of the problem, it would seal their tribe's agreement with Phlan. We certainly had our work cut out for us….
