[ Session 44 ] [ Back ] [ Session 46 ]
We looked at the BBEG; he looked at us. He monologued for a few seconds, but mostly to shake his head at us.
He summoned minions, including spellcasters and archers on the top balcony. On the floor were summoned more rogues. We had a lot of nasties to clean out and not a lot of the right type of fire-power to do it.
My Banishments went sideways, so I gave up on that and decided I would reposition on the balcony and blast away one of their two casters. Dude got rekt, by tons of Scorching Rays, plus a Counterspell in the middle of it.
But after that, I was a primary target by the remaining caster. At least he was harrying me now instead of our melee. But we of the balcony allies (me and caed) ended up getting the attention of the BBEG while everyone else was dealing with the melee down below.
This was not cool, both of us went down in turn, but were able to revive each other in turn. By the time we'd gotten each other patched back up, most of the melee on the bottom floor was done. We picked off the remaining archers, and then helped finish off the guys on the floor.
It was a very tough fight for our party, but we were just barely able to overcome, and won the day.
With Koval mansion cleaned, it was time to collect our loot, lick our wounds, and return the the Council.
Of note, one of the things that we recovered was a diary full of gossipy notes about important figures in the area of Phlan, including the Councilmen. We decided we'd keep the diary and not mention anything to the Council about it. We still had a mole to find.
