Ka-On has trained as a Monk since he was very young, before even the time he Exalted at age 13. He took to his Martial Arts classes very well and decided to stick with it through the long run. Due to his affinity for it and his superior abilities, he was easily able to find a master to teach him the Celestial martial art of Water Dragon Style.
Once he finished his novice training in martial arts and Water Dragon Style, he took a several years' absence to meditate on the form and his element on his own by becoming a Marine in the Imperial Navy. He was lucky, it turns out, to not have been on a Naval ship run by a Peleps (indeed, his ship had very few Peleps on it – a condition that he had cleverly arranged for himself as he tended to dislike his family's tendency toward an intense political atmosphere).
Their flotilla had been dispatched to the complete other side of the world and was largely ignorant to the goings-on in the capital, and not really in a position to do anything about it had they not been ignorant. It was after the fight for the city was concluded that Ka-On's flotilla finally landed back in the Imperial City and Ka-On found out what had become of his family.
Ka-On discovered that his father, a very stern and honor-bound Nellens, had been killed in the battle for the city (apparently an honor-debt had been called in on him, forcing him to fight on behalf of his house). His mother, Na-Na, had been severely disturbed by the presence of the Abyssal Dragon-Bloods and staunchly remained out of the combat. When Ka-On first saw his mother upon his return, even though she wore a typical Peleps mask of calm, he could tell she was noticeably shaken by the absence of her husband when she spoke of him. This seemed especially devastating since she had apparently had two children while Ka-On had been out at sea: a very auspicious set of twin boys who were now 2 years old and looked very disturbingly like his late father.
His older-younger sister, the 34 year old Water-Aspect Kei-Na, had been a marine on one of the warships that had been betrayed by its Peleps Captain and had been forcibly converted to an Abyssal Dragon-Blood. While fortunately converted somehow back to a normal Dragon-Blood like most of those unfortunates seemed to have been during the battle, she was not mentally well, and had been sent out to a distant family holding in the hopes that she would regain her sanity.
His youngest sister, the 20 year old Water-Aspect Su-Na, works in the imperial bureaucracy and was unable to act during the civil war as she was with the deliberative and other bureaucrats while it was being held hostage by Mnemon.
Ka-On's maternal grandmother, Mina, the matriarch of their sub-house and a political force to be reckoned with even in this dark situation for the house as a whole, was already scheming to determine how to restore at the very least their sub-house's honor and status. Mina is an incredibly intimidating woman who had been honored by the Empress in years past for some service she had performed on the Empress's behalf that no one seemed to know any details about. Ka-On knew for a fact that Mina currently had her eyes on his mother and her two twins boys (a sign of great fertility and a good negotiating point, if they both exalted), for leverage. Not even he was beneath Mina's radar, since he was a monk (of a Celestial style) and still single… He knew for a fact that Mina had been pressing his mother on that latter point since he had returned from his stint at sea.
Ka-On himself tends to be overly independent, and dislikes the political atmosphere of his family, much to their annoyance. He was raised in such an environment so he can be subtle and manipulating when needed, but he normally is very straightforward and honest when speaking. He has impeccable manners and can function well in any social situation, especially those highly formal or political in nature.
He has in the past had several alliance marriage offers of which his family entertained gladly, but much to their annoyance, as a monk has had the option of declining them, and did so, claiming a vow of celibacy with some vague time frame on it (until he was done with his novice training in his martial arts style, not that they knew).
While many of the monks in Immaculate Order tend to be self-absorbed fundamentalist bullies, Ka-On decided to strike out in a different direction, preferring a calm and logical approach to life's mysteries. He is more of an introspective and balanced soul, not particularly enjoying violence but not hesitating to use such when it is needed. Being a Peleps though, he can and has put on a “show” for other more intense senior monks when needed. Until he is a master level sifu of his chosen style, he must continue to play these games that he so dislikes.
Presently, Ka-On is doing his two-year tenure as martial arts instructor at the local monastery, while continuing his training in Water Dragon Style, before deciding what it is he wants to do on a more permanent basis. He has recently been seen hanging out with the army captain and sorceress Ledaal Tsuru Sesuna, whom he apparently met while he was away at sea. The status of their relationship is unknown.
Ka-On is the cousin of Peleps Alven Linaria, and seems to know her fairly well from their childhood.
