Session 21: Well Cleared
[ Session 20 ] [ Back ] [ Session 22 ]
Adrenaline pumping, we stepped up to wipe these jokers out. The casters backed up, the rogue appeared suddenly, slept one enemy so quickly I barely noticed, and then I took a deep breath, lifted my arms, and let drop a massive fireball.
Over half of the enemies were cleared out and almost all of those left were charred and bleeding. As soon as the smoke cleared, a pack of wolves bounded into the room to start harrying the melee. The enemies turned to take care of the wolves, which they did, but they made it clear that the next round would mean a lot of pain for our melee.
Our turn, a few guys dropped and took a beating from our melee. The druid stepped forward and dropped a fog cloud on the majority of the enemies to force them to approach our front line only 3 at a time or so.
The enemy was contained, for now. Our melee held the front line well. Logru was able to maintain despite being drained coming into this fight.
When the enemy showed up on our rear line, the rogue bought us some time with an illusion, and then the druid and I took over when they started coming through.
By then our front line was on the boss bad guy. He dished out quite a beating to our front line, but 3 versus 1 is rarely winnable, and here again that would prove to be true.
The boss went down, the back line dropped one by one, and eventually the battle stopped. Casualties: zero. For us, at least.
The fog cloud dropped and we secured the main room for our escape. And then…. the rest of the goblins came out and surrendered. We sent them on their way and decided to secure the the compound for ourselves. We would rest here.
We looted the goblin boss, and then holed up in his locked room while we rifled through his stuff and rested.
We found a secret room with some sort of magical gate in it. Also, something magical was keeping any fires under control in the whole area of the well, including all the out buildings.
We also found the half-orc captain's journal.
Journal, penned by the Half-Orc Captain
- the people around him were getting away from something
- accidentally found the tunnel
- muses about the purpose of the tunnel at length
- enchantment over the area of the tunnel that prevents open flames from spreading, among other effects
- something in the secret room, after that one time, doesn't to mess with cuz he almost died (down in the tunnels somewhere)
- piece of parchment in the back of the book, in a different hand than his, official notice, 21st of tarsok, the day we went to the island, “assemble a group of at least 50 of your followers, join hobogoblin captain and follow his orders. norriss replied saying eff you. don't follow the orders of a hobogoblin, for an unspecified reason, for an unspecified reward.”
