Session 44: Exploration and Cleanup

[ Session 43 ] [ Back ] [ Session 45 ]

At this point, we weren't sure what to do.

There were too many doors/hallways/potential paths, and we were wasting too much time trying to clear each room and path as we went, especially what with this being a rogues' nest, and the potential for misleading paths and traps. We needed more concrete information so we could just go straight there.

Furthermore, we had bad guys ahead of us for sure, and bad guys possibly to the rear of us as well. Even less good to be wandering around trying to figure out which way to go while being attacked on both fronts.

So, in asnwer to this, the druid concocted some ridiculous bullshit that eventually ended up with a mouse scouting for us. Whatever works, I suppose.

The mouse returned and conferred with Kethys, showing us a path that should lead us directly to the mansion. Once we had that in place, Caed decided to enact some trickery of our own. We had disguised and magicked each person to look like someone else, plus a dose of dust of disappearance for all of us, and suddenly everyone was someone else and invisible (to the eye anyway).

As we proceeded forward to the keep, we came to another ambush point. There were spellcasters this time, to add to the mix. But our convoluted reworking of our group and the invisibility sufficiently confused the enemy that we somehow held the advantage. Heck, even I was confused by this point, I wasn't quite sure who I was dropping heals on much less who was casting things and who was stabbing things exactly.

While helping Logru manage some enemies away from the others, I targeted one of the two spell casters and hammered him with some magic missiles. After some more love from the melee, that dude got rekt. However the 2nd spellcaster ran. We never did catch him.

Due to our confusing planning, we were able to overcome this group without much difficulty or expending much in the way of resources.

We headed on into the keep. Everywhere, each room we went through from then on was empty. We explored as we proceeded, through a dining area, the kitchen, store room, and eventually ended up at a big pair of double-doors that opened into something like a two-storied ballroom, with the upper story a balcony level.

Marten Koval was standing there in the middle of the room shaking his head at us. We knew then, that the big battle was about to begin.
