We made our way down to giant spiral staircase. A few rooms populated this area, some had giant hooks hanging from the ceiling with desiccated remains on them. Another room contained a humongous pit. Kethys changed into a creature, and went down and explored a bit. As we waited, we heard a large commotion emanate from the pit, and Kethys came out in a hurry, followed by a white gelatinous blob. Someone called out a warning that this abomination would melt our weapons, so Najila destroyed it with flame. A cursory search revealed nothing of interest, so we carried on.
Another room contained the giant's blacksmith's room, complete with forge, anvil, and 2 large earthen elemental guardians. They shambled to life and started towards us. I took a chance and told them we came in peace in the language of the giants. They stopped, in what seemed to be surprise. Who would ever imagine that a half-elf of Tyr would be able to speak in giant? They explained that they were tied by contract to the place (the forge), and could not leave it. They also could not go back to sleep until the chieftain rested once more as well. I swore to do just that. As we were leaving, they indicated that the blacksmith kept a small cache of supplies in a secret hole under his anvil. Caedmon disarmed the trap that guarded it, and we were able to get some treasure. After leaving the smithy, we discovered that we had covered all of the area down here, so the only place left to explore was the presumed secret chamber under his bed. Gathering a bunch of chains from the first room, we made our way back up.
When we arrived at the chieftain's bed, we hooked the chains to the bed, and then up through the eye hook in the ceiling. Using everything we had, we were able to lift the bed up. revealing a staircase that went downwards. Making our way down, we got to the resting place of Mok-Turoknin. It was a huge chamber, with steps at the end that went up to a large throne, where we could see a large frozen body. However, before we could explore further, we were assailed by wraiths, former barbarians led by Rognavad. These poor souls had no choice but to protect this chamber. Soon after the battle started, I became surrounded. Calling upon Tyr, I was able to drive one away as he became frightened of my gods power. The others began to fall one by one. After a protracted battle, we finally finished off Rognavad, then the last of his lieutenants. We for a few moments for a breather, unsure if Mok-Turoknin would now come after us, but aside from an ominous pressure in the air, nothing happened. We chanced taking a look at him, and found what looked like his battle-axe on the floor next to him. It seems that it had been posed in his hand in death, and that something, perhaps the earthquake, had jostled it loose. We placed it back in it's spot, and the air seemed to clear, and the ever-present feeling of dread lifted. With the chieftain at rest, and Rognavad's great-sword Thorgrim in tow, we headed back to the village.
