Kingdom of Achmenis
Geography
Laying about 1000 miles south of Noble in the foothills of the Summer Mountains (grid square N10), this Nellens satrapy is a productive wine-growing region in the hills and wheat and barley producing region near the coast. The Tarkris River is navigable for about 700 miles into the mountains until it becomes impassible. Providing the primary economic engine, it is a heavily travelled river from the port city of Galba to the captial Achmenia 400 miles inland in the more temperate hill country.
In the southeast of creation, the temperatures typically soar into the low 110s in the day during the summer months before dropping to the low 80s. Winter highs are in the 60s, with lows going down to the 40s. Rainfall is generally light, but frequent, contributing to fairly high humidity given the typically arid surroundings.
Politics
Led by a King or Queen, the satrapy is a hereditary monarchy that was federated to the realm a few hundred years ago. Local pride resulted in Nellens legions being stationed in the land for much of that time, being drawn off slowly. The last combat formations were withdrawn to support the Mnemon/Pelleps/Nellens bid for the Imperial Throne 15 years ago. Since then, they've enjoyed relatively more independence and self-determination. As long as the taxes and tribute are delivered on schedule, the Nellens family is content to leave a small garrison of a dozen soldiers in Galba to guard family warehouses and docks.
The current ruler is King Socar Redthak, a middle aged man with dark skin, piercing blue eyes and greying hair. His daughter, Tria Redthak is the heir apparent. Nellens' interests are represented in his court by Nellens Par Fazuul, a patrician of about 50 years. Fazuul and his family represents the only permanent imperial diplomats stationed in Achmenia.
