Shape Sorcery

Shape Sorcery: Combat Action, Extended Roll – roll (INT + Occult) 1/turn, p465

  • Each success gathers 1 mote toward the casting of the spell/working
    • If you do not gain enough motes to cast the spell, you roll again on your next turn
    • When you gain enough motes, the spell is cast reflexively/immediately
    • Cannot be part of a flurry
    • May pause your gathering of motes to perform other actions, but lose 3m/round
    • If shape sorcery is done for the purpose of powering a different spell, all previous motes gathered are lost
    • Rituals are out-of-combat shape sorcery actions

Costs

Costs: p465

  • Willpower: most spells cost 1 willpower up front
    • If the spell is successfully cast, you regain 1 willpower
    • If the spell fails or is lost, your willpower investment is gone
  • Commitment: Sorcerous motes are never committed, regardless of the spell's duration
  • Casting in Crash: Cannot regain the 1 wp, and all spells cost +3 motes to cast
  • Control Spell: Signature spell, all sorcerers have one

Counterspelling

Counterspelling: p466

  • Combat action, cannot be part of a flurry, (INT + Occult)
    • This is done as the spell is being shaped (Shape Sorcery action)
    • If you are familiar with the spell, each success drains one mote from the spell
    • If you are not familiar, every 2 successes drains 1 mote
    • When all motes are drained, the spell fails
    • When your spell is countered, the caster must wait 1 turn before he can do anew shape sorcery action

Dispell

Dispell: known as Distortion, p466

  • extended roll, terminus 5 (if the target number isn't met within 5 rolls, you cannot attempt to distort it again)
  • difficulty 1 for terrestrial, difficulty 3 for celestial, difficulty 5 for solar
    • -2 penalty if you don't know the spell you're trying to distort
    • each spell's text has the target number and the distortion effects

Undoing A Spell

Undoing a Spell: removing long-term effects of a spell, p466

  • requires a sorcerous working of ambition 3 (p486)
  • ST can modify parameters as they see fit to make it easier or harder

Shaping Ritual

Shaping Ritual: p466-470

  • Optional way of gaining additional motes for sorcerous workings
  • Fey-touched, demonic pacts, etc, are common sources for additional mote sources
  • Buy associated merits

Circles

Circles:

  • Terrestrial Circle Sorcery: Also known as Emerald Circle, p471
  • Celestial Circle Sorcery: Also known as Sapphire Circle, p476
  • Solar Circle Sorcery: Also known as Adamant Circle, p480

Terrestrials, Liminals, and mortals are limited to the Terrestrial Circle.

Only Solars can master the final circle, the Solar Circle.

Abyssals practice Necromancy, not Solar Circle sorcery.
