There are six ancestral Duchal families of Upper Thalia. They roughly correspond to the border duchies that once conquered the Thalian heartland, and now defend it
- Orthand – Duchy of Orthus (Thalian/Sturmgaard frontier)
- Veris – Duchy of Vern (Eastern Thalian/Lower Thalian frontier)
- Parnth – Duchy of Pal'parntha (South Western Thalia/Lower Thalian frontier)
- Melfir – Duchy of Melfis (Alestian/Thalian frontier)
- Rebaat – Duchy of Reberis (Surrounding Thalas)
- Narse – Duchy of Narses (Mountains between Regland/Upper Thalia)
