Sturmgaard is ruled by the church of Hathander, with the Archbishop of Sturmgaard being the de facto head of state. Sandwiched between the nominally friendly lands of the Valenost and the perennially hostile Upper Thalia, Sturmgaard is generally cut off from the greater part of humanity and reflects many of the moral sensibilities of their elven brethren.
