Made a short stopover in the name of “reprovisioning” while instead ditching the tracking device onto the ship of some religious pilgrimaging people. Once that was done, we continued on our way to Coruscant.
We landed with minimal fuss in the lower, scummier areas of coruscant and rented some rooms as a cover. We headed out onto the road to follow the beacon's signal, and managed to come across some annoying, interfering Jedi. Cookie declared he'd handle it so turret and I headed off farther, pretending to be “shopping.”
Cookie rejoined us after not too long and we followed the signal to where it became obvious we would be heading underground into an excavation situation. We headed back to our rooms and brainstormed a list of the gear we thought we'd need to acquire in order to enable us to extract this beacon thing from in the midst of a beehive of workers, droids, and drilling.
We then spent a couple of hours acquiring this gear, and then we headed down through the shed-entrance. As we began descending, cookie had a raging clue that someone might be trailing us. Like maybe the Sith Jawa? Or the Jedi from earlier? We hurried down to the main level where the workers were setup for breaks and such, and, in a ridiculous scheme of sorts, filched some of the workers' clothing in order that we could travel and mingle among them freely without suspicion.
After laying low for a little bit and hearing more noise about Sith Jawa, we finally headed over to the shaft leading down to the site of the active excavating. We were able to descend with all our gear and equipment without issue, and mingle among all workers with ease. The ship stuck out of the rock like the tip of an iceberg. Multitudes of diagnostic and scanning droids flew about the area. We followed the signal of the beacon nonchalantly until we pinpointed just about where the signal was originating from.
Fortunately for us, it was on the part of the ship already excavated. Unfortunately our presence would be noticeable and decidedly odd if we climbed up on top of the gigantic metal structure protruding from the rock. Especially the droids buzzing about. Thus began my tenure as hacker of the day.
I planted myself on the ground with my portable wireless scanner and began working some magic on the nearest of the buzzing droids. After a few minutes, I had him infecting his other droids in the area and eventually had the area we needed clear of hunks of metal capable of interfering with our nefarious deeds.
After that we began scaling the side of the ship near the wall where the fleshy beings would be unlikely to notice. We finally arrived at the area broadcasted and studied the beacon sitting encaged and attached to the top of the ship. How to get it out? This metal… it was weird, unusual. I hadn't seen anything like it. I was a bit concerned about being able to successfully cut through it. We pulled out the sonic jack-hammer thing, and…. no effect.
The noise level was sufficient in here that we could do just about anything outside of flying a ship in and blowing crap up with turboblasters. So the sonic hammer drew no attention. But… I downloaded some maps and analysis data from my “droid friend”. Unfortunately, even with all this extra information I was still unable to determine what might cut through this weird metal. After trying several things and flailing a bit, we eventually found that hitting it with turret's disruptor rifle destablized the molecules enough that the hammer was able to eventually break through it.
We finally freed the thing. Getting it down to the ground was trivial. But how to get it back up the shaft without drawing attention?
So turret went and did his thing on the bucket operator after bluffing the dude failed. I programmed up the bucket driver to go into high speed once everyone was on the buckets. We loaded the beacon up, and each hopped a bucket, and turret triggered it as we zoomed up. Once we hit the top, we nabbed and wired up a speeder, loaded up the beacon, and zoomed off. Well, some security droids noticed our shenanigans and began chasing us. I hacked a couple, turret blew up a couple, and, the rest mysteriously wrecked on their own.
Once we had taken care of the security droids and had made it about halfway through the main area, Cookie made some urgent noise about pull over. Once stopped he jumped out and… apparently found bits n pieces of his Jedi pals from earlier and began loading them up into the freaking speeder. I put my foot down and told him absolutely not, and turret began throwing the fleshy bits back out. Dude, if someone caught us with these things with us they'd think we were responsible for it! What the heck was he gonna do with them anyway?
Cookie harrumphed about that but capitulated and got back in the speeder and we headed the rest of the way out of there. Good grief!
An interrogation of Mr Cookie was in order later…
