Entry 08: Lizard of Doooooom
[ Previous ] [ Back ] [ Next ]
After a shopping-game trip to Kaas City to acquire some lizard-slaying gear, mostly bombs for Turret, we returned to the Revanite camp and discussed our plan. Turret managed to produce a carbonite bomb from Atronis, apparently, in exchange for the 1L2 of bank we had sitting around from when Robert schooled the Cerean at space-billiards. Interesting, that would be extremely helpful. So we sat down and finished coming up with our basic plan and then set off for the caves to take care of a bigass lizard (I know about big asses).
The lizard was sleeping pretty hard, so we took our time looking around the immediate area of it and coming up with our placements, actions, and overall tactics. Who would do what, who would be where. Order of battle. Roles. Good thing the lizard was enjoying his nap. Savn hung out in a side passage, intending on doing damage from the side from a passage too small for it to get at him. I was in the main area of the tunnel where some stalags hung/stood, intending to provide cover fire. Turret set up his mines, including the carbonite bomb and then once all that was ready, he headed to the end of the passage to wake the critter up.
The carbonite bomb sorta made the whole thing trivial. Well, not trivial, but it was a good plan, a good tactic, and Savn kicked the snot out of it. Not that I could see it, because apparently it had some kind of force invisibility going. But it was so freaking huge that it took up pretty much the whole tunnel, so no matter where I shot I would be extremely unlucky if I didn't manage to hit it. The biggest issue was that it had some temperature sort of powers. So the longer we stayed here engaging it, the more we would freeze inside of our skins.
As luck would have it, though, we managed to take it down before we had taken on more damage than we could handle. I couldn't really see what was going on, but the carcass finally shifted back into my vision, as it stopped moving. Not that it moved much in the first place, being so big, and stuck in a small (for it) hole. We actually had to hack/blast an exit hole through it's carcass so Savn could come out of his side tunnel. We extracted some trophies from what remained of the creature and headed back to camp.
Once we turned in our evidence and given a pass for this test, we had to deal with a final trial given to us by my mentor, Yasha. It was a trippy drug-fueled experience full of odd and uncomfortable dreams. Later, we were told we theoretically “died” doing this trial. Well, Yasha's a little weird so no telling if she was being literal or not. Anyway, my dreams were not too enjoyable perse. Glad this is over. Wish I could forget, to deny what I know has already come to pass.
And then, with very little fanfare, we were all now full members. And apparently, so was some dude named Zrak who I had never seen before now. How long had he been working on his trials? It was a little awkward, as my group sorta just brushed him off in a sort of “whatever” way. I hope that didn't offend him. Well anyway, time to be off to the stars and see what the future will hold for us now.
