Summary

Logru grew up amongst the orcs of the Northern wilds. He never knew his mother- she was just one of many victims of his father Goram's tribe. The young girl was taken as a prize when Goram and his brethern slaughtered her tribe's village and quickly impregnated, dying during childbirth.

Logru had a fierce desire for battle like his orcish kin. but did not share their taste for pillaging and wonton death and destruction. He wished to face worthy opponents on the field of combat and see them broken before him, not raid villages and murder hapless innocents. Between this aversion of meaningless slaughter and his mixed heritage he was constantly getting into fights with the other youth of his tribe. Lucky for him, he was still pretty big despite being a half breed and always came out on top. Being the son of the tribe's chief prevented him from getting his throat cut in his sleep after embarassing his would be bullies.

His life would radically change in his 14th year. He and some of the other youth of his tribe were sent south to raid caravans to test their mettle. Unbeknown to him, the other members of his group planned to murder him far away from the watchful eye of his father in revenge for beating them down. When they returned they would tell tales of how his weakness got him killed, not being of true orc stock. The scheme was to kill them in the middle of a caravan ambush. Their mistake was trying to kill him before the ambush fully started.

Logru sensed his would be attackers at the last second, flying into a fierce rage. He viciously slaughtered his orc comrades, coincidentally saving the caravan. The guards were wary of him at first, confused at this seemingly bestial half-orc who saved them from being slaughtered by orc raiders. Another fight was quickly averted thanks to an entrepreneurial halfling named Vink, who diffused the situation by talking both sides down.

Vink was a conman and gambler who took one look at Logru and saw bags of gold. He could tell Logru wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, and figured he could make a good deal of money off him in the underground pitfighting rings he knew of in Phlan. He knew the dislike of orcs in the city would naturally make people want to see him get beat down and want to bet against him despite his size and prowess.

Logru, under the moniker “The Bonecleaver” did well- and though the fights were not to the death, it did satiate his lust for battle against worthy opponents. Plus he loved the roar of the crowd as he showed off his martial ability. It was during this time he met a grizzled ex-adventurer named Zaan. A barrel chested mountain of a man almost as big as Logru, he still seemed like a man in his prime despite his age. Zaan admired the young half-orc's fighting spirit, and sought to mentor the youth, hoping to improve Logru's fighting prowess and set him on a better path. The man also “introduced” Logru to Tempus. Hearing tales of the Lord of Battles, he felt drawn towards this god, more than he ever did the god Gruumsh worshiped by his former brethren.

The half-orc was a wildman in battle, and under Zaan's tutelage he learned better technique to make him a more formidable warrior. Zaan also encouraged Logru's desire to step out from the shadows of Phlan's underbelly and become an adventurer. Being a half-orc, he was viewed with distrust by the citizens of the city, but Zaan and Vink vouching for him has helped him make inroads into being accepted as a powerful warrior other adventurers could work with.
