Summary

Najila (pronounced na-YEE-la) was born on an unknown date, of unknown parents. At a presumptive age of 3 she was found by a dwarven priest named Skorrik Firebeard, as she lay unconscious on a small stick boat floating in a creek that trickled into the mountainous home of the dwarves of Vaasa. Skorrik recognized her heritage for what it was, but the glint of gold in her horns gave him pause to simply leave the child to her fate. He sat upon the bank and prayed for guidance from Bahamut, and after a few minutes he opened his eyes to a golden halo surrounding the unconscious child. He knew there would be questions, but he took this as a sign from his patron, and took the child home with him.

For the majority of her life, Najila was raised among the dwarves. At first she spoke only in languages unrecognizable to even the studious Skorrik, yet within the year she was speaking dwarven fluently. Where she walked, the heat in the air was palpable, candles alit, and light was always in abundance. Due to her fiery nature, coloring, and heritage, her birthing day was named by Skorrik as midsummer, and was celebrated as such from the first year and on.

Once she turned 10, she was brought into the Jewelers and Gems guild to fire their gemstones to remove impurities and to heat their forges for the delicate metals the jewels would be set into. The art of jewelry craft came naturally to her it was discovered, and she was apprenticed to Alin Goldenjaw, master artificer.

As her teenage years began to wan, it was oft spoken of by the dwarves that a gem of ruby of incomparable size and clarity had been unearthed in the dragonspine mountains, to the west of their kingdom. More recently, they spoke of a large force of orcs that had boiled up to take control of the human lands between here and there. And even yet more recently, that the commander of this orc force had taken the ruby for his own. Many of the dwarves in the guild spoke of their desire to set out and retrieve this ruby, styled as “The Eye of Kossuth”, but ultimately, the desire to remain hidden away from the rest of the realm in their safe, secure mountain home was stronger.

But Najila's interest was piqued, and a desire she'd never known to set out and see some of the world motivated her beyond the cautious, sensible, and complacent example set by her dwarven comrades…

Questions

  • Do you follow a god?
    • Bahamut, like my adoptive father (who is a cleric of the same)
  • Why have you come to Phlan?
    • The ruby held by the commander of the orcs in Phlan - The Eye of Kossuth
      • This ruby is thought to be still in ore/uncut form… if it even exists at all
  • Enemies?
    • There is still varying levels of distrust among the dwarves; however, respect for her adoptive father prevents them from taking any action. Nothing organized, and it is unknown if any particular individual has an especially deep rooted hatred/dislike of her.
  • Parents?
    • Unknown; although one was probably an Infernal (demon flavor, CE)
    • Also, who set her adrift in the river? Parent? Someone else? She doesn't know, nor why anyone would do such a thing.
  • Something unique about you that makes you a real person:
    • Things n Stuff
