“Marilyn” was taken by the Fey when she was 14 years old. Her family was on vacation in America, visiting some friends who lived in Atlanta, when, while playing out in the forest behind their house with her brother, Max, she fell through a hole covered by leaves on the forest floor that lead to the Hedge.
Her brother followed her in without hesitation, taking up what arms he could, a branch, and challenged the Fey quite, well, it seemed fearsome at the time anyway. But how futile it was in actuality. The Fey was so amused by Max's determination to defend the sister that he, the Fey, had his eye on, that he decided to take both of them back to Faerie.
Once they arrived, she never saw her brother again. That is, until they were “allowed” to leave, as it turned out, many years later. While in Faerie, she was morphed into something approximating an Angelic statue of alabaster, gold, and platinum, and made to wander about the garden aimlessly, endlessly, and beautifully, the days blurring together one after another. As she did this, others would observe, write of, paint, and sculpt her likeness, and she would continue her path through the marvelous and fabulous exotic gardens kept by her Fey captor, lovingly attended by others like her.
Rape seemed to be a pretty common punishment for getting out of line around these parts but strangely her Fey captor never allowed a single person, himself included, to touch her. Even when she behaved incredibly unladylike early on, attempting to fight the inevitability of her servitude. It didn't mean she didn't see it happen, but simply that it never happened to her. It was a terrible thing to watch, to be sure.
Then one day, her Fey captor lead her from the garden to this place that was a gigantic arena of some sort. She'd seen something like this back in Italy when her family had visited the place on vacation one year when she was 10. Well, except that this place was immaculate, in pristine condition, and full of people. She was made to watch as a man she eventually recognized as her brother, brutally murdered several people down on the stadium floor below her.
It was horrifying to watch, but she had seen so many horrifying things around her day in and day out that she simply stood there dispassionately, wondering what the purpose of this was. Finally, after her brother's 3rd victim fell to the ground lifeless, she was led down to the arena floor and up to him. He was frightening to behold this close, covered in sweat and blood and entrails, the stench of urine and feces hanging, roiling in the hot, wet air around them.
At that time, the gates to the coliseum opened before them, the path before them shimmered, and the Fey motioned them to it. Together they walked through the 20ft high gate, and out into the Hedge, following this single path all the way to its end: back out into the world.
When they returned, Marilyn and her brother joined the Winter Court of the Atlanta Freehold. Marilyn had lost much of the time from her life where a person changes, develops, and figures out what the heck they want to do with their life. What she did know was that she did not want to be fixated upon anymore, have people stare at her for her “angelic beauty” or somesuch nonsense. It was unnerving, creepy, and it made her skin crawl. Instead, she took a job at a nearby Bank of America branch and worked her way up the ranks to Loan Manager of the branch. What powers she did gain from the Fey have obviously helped her move up in the ranks quickly, despite being so young.
She is still not completely sure what she wants to do with her life yet, but this job will do for now. It pays the bills and that is important. She has been pondering eventually going to college and then maybe becoming a veterinarian like she'd always wanted to be when she was young. It is of great interest to her but she is still considering her options.
She currently lives alone in an apartment in Sandy Springs near her job. She still talks to her brother a lot, and has dinner or lunch with him every couple weeks. Other than that, they seem to try to stay out of each other's hair, to let each other move forward alone, each down their own path to the future. But, if it ever came to an issue, they are steadfastly there for each other through thick and thin, come hell, highwater, Fey, or otherwise.
