Scion: Awakening -- Setting

Premise

Earth's history knows nothing of gods and monsters. As far as anyone alive is concerned, the universe is a grand emergent artifact of scientific laws interacting over the mutable tapestry of spacetime. There is no such thing as magic; there never was. All we have to suggest otherwise are imaginative stories made up by primitive humans to explain things beyond their current level of understanding.

A group of college students are meeting up at a Waffle House for a midnight food run after a late study session. Tomorrow morning's anthropology exam promises to be a doozy and some of them are in very real danger of failing the course.

The students, plus the other restaurant patrons and employees, are about have their lives wholly disrupted by an unexpected and dramatic turn of events. Wackiness shall ensue.

Character Introduction

Go through chargen like normal; buy whatever abilities and items you want to have in the Hero tier. You'll be starting as a “mere” mortal, meaning your Legend score and any other supernatural gimmicks will simply be unavailable during the first session.

This will mean that if you heavily invest in your godlike abilities and not your normal abilities, your human self will proportionately suck at first. That's entirely okay. Just be prepared for it.

Your human self has the potential to be financially well-off if you want; that's just a flavor decision rather than a game effect. Just like in real life, there's a wide variety of income levels around the Roswell area. Yes you can start off poor, too. This is a game about demigods where mundane wealth probably doesn't matter too much in the grander scheme of things.

It's recommended that everyone play a college kid in the study group, but not required. You can be anyone who has a reason to be hanging out in a Waffle House in the middle of the night on a Wednesday. It's fine if you're non-traditional students too. It's just best if all of the characters start out knowing each other, even if casually.
