Character Creation

Use the Scion: Hero book, pg99.

Basics

Hero p97

  • Step 1: Calling (aka Character Concept)
    • Short description “Shrewd Corporate Lawyer”
    • Choose Divine Parent
    • Choose Nature (Hero p112-117)
      • Each Nature has a mechanical benefit, so read the in-depth section
      • Ex: Architects recover one point of temporary Willpower when they successfully execute a major plan of action
  • Step 2: Attributes
    • Assign primary, secondary, tertiary to attribute columns
    • Start with 1 dot in every attribute
    • Primary receives 8 more dots
    • Secondary Receives 6 more dots
    • Tertiary receives 4 more dots
    • Attributes cannot be higher than 5
  • Step 3: Abilities (aka skills)
    • Spend 30 dots among abilities
    • Abilities cannot be higher than 3 at this point in chargen
    • Your divine parent confers Favored Abilities, but those don't matter at this step
    • Choose Specialties if you took dots in
      • Art, Control, Craft, Science,
  • Step 4: Advantages
    • Birthrights (aka artifacts/relics)
      • Spend 5 dots on birthrights
      • Cannot spend more than 3 on a single birthright
    • Epic Attributes, Knacks, Boons
      • Receive 10 dots to divide among Epic Attributes and Boons
      • Epic Attributes are a 1-for-1 purchase (each dot costs 1)
        • Choose one Knack for each dot in an Epic Attribute
      • Boons cost the same amount as their rating
      • Epic Attribute and Boon ratings cannot equal or exceed Legend score
    • Virtues
      • Assign Pantheon Virtues
        • Norse: Courage, Endurance, Expression, Loyalty
        • Japanese: Duty, Endurance, Intellect, Valor
        • Aztec: Conviction, Courage, Duty, Loyalty
        • Greek: Expression, Intellect, Valor, Vengeance
        • Voodoo: Harmony, Order, Piety, Vengeance
        • Egyptian: Conviction, Harmony, Order, Piety
        • Chinese: Duty, Harmony, Intellect, Valor
        • Hindu: Endurance, Harmony, Intellect, Order
        • Irish: Courage, Expression, Intellect, Piety
        • Persian: Conviction, Duty, Expression, Valor
      • Start with 1 dot in each virtue
      • Divide 5 more dots between your 4 virtues
      • A Virtue cannot be greater than 4
  • Step 5: Finishing Touches
    • Willpower: sum of two highest virtues
    • Legend
      • Mortals: Legend 0 (maaaaaaaaybe 1)
      • Scions: Legend 2
    • Legend Points: Legend squared
    • Health: (default) one -0; two -1; two -2; one -4; one Incapacitated
    • Bonus Points (15):
      • Can raise all dots beyond restricted caps except for Attributes
      • Attributes cost 4
      • Abilities cost 2 (or 1 for Favored)
      • Birthrights cost 1 (2 if being raised above 3)
      • Virtues cost 3
      • Willpower costs 2
      • Legend costs 7
      • Epic Attribute costs 5 (4 if associated with divine parent)
      • Knack costs 3
      • Boons cost 5 (4 if associated with divine parent)
      • Additional Spell 5 (4 if Magic is associated with divine parent)

House Rule

Verboten Knacks

  • The thing in Scion: God that lets you wipe an opponent's Willpower completely

Verboten Boons

  • Prophecy
  • Mystery

Legend

  • Legend cannot be above 2 at character creation, even with bonus points
