Vehicle Basics

Vehicle Attributes

Handling: Agility and responsiveness. The base limit for Vehicle Tests involving maneuverability. Often divided for on-road and off-road handling.

Speed: The top-end speed and the base limit for vehicle tests emphasizing raw speed. Movement rates for vehicles differ from those of metahumans as shown on the following table:

Speed Attribute Walking (M/Turn) Running (M/Turn)
1 5 10
2 10 20
3 20 40
4 40 80
5 80 160
6 160 320
7 320 640
8 640 1280
9 1280 2560
10 2560 5120

Acceleration: The maximum number of Range Categories a vehicle can move in a single Combat Turn.

Body: Combination of size/physical sturdiness and susceptibility to damage. Also determines the damage dealt with Ramming attacks and can be considered a representation of the Strength attribute in situations that call for it. Rolled with Armor to resist damage just like for metahumans.

Armor: A vehicle's “toughness”, not necessarily just armor plating. Rolled with Body to resist damage, same as for metahumans.

Pilot: The on-board autopilot's problem-solving capability. Any vehicle not being actively piloted by a person uses Pilot in place of Reaction and all Mental attributes for any tests it needs to make. This is also the vehicle's Device Rating.

Sensor: The power/diversity of a vehicle's on-board sensor suite. This value is the limit for Perception and other detection tests made by or through the vehicle's sensor systems. This is considered a Sensor Array with a Rating equal to the Sensor attribute and includes up to 8 functions chosen from the Sensor Function table (SRV pg. 446).

Vehicle Size Max Sensor Rating
Small (or smaller) Drone 3
Medium Drone 4
Large Drone 5
Motorcycle 6
Any Larger Vehicle 7

Condition Monitor

As vehicles are typically less squishy than metahumans, their Condition Monitor has boxes equal to 12 plus half their Body (rounded up). They also ignore Stun damage (though electrical attacks do Physical damage to them) and any attack where the modified DV does not exceed the vehicle's Armor does nothing. Drones are less durable, and have a Condition Monitor of only 6 plus half their Body (round up).

Drones and most vehicles also have a Matrix Condition Monitor like any other wireless device. A vehicle or drone's Pilot rating is considered it's Device Rating. So, 8 plus half it's Pilot rating, rounded up.
