Overview

In order to use the Force, a character must be Force-sensitive, have the specific ability, and spend the appropriate Legend Points to activate the ability for that single round. A character can sustain a Force ability by continuing to spend Legend Points per round after it is activated.

Using Force powers willy-nilly in combat can get expensive quickly, meaning people still need to be stunting every round if they can (and they should be anyway because it's cooler). Once Legend gets high enough then the economy becomes easier to manage; think of how Luke could manage only a few things against the Wampa, then how he was doing lots more against Vader at the end of Empire (while Vader was just toying with him). Compare all that to Yoda vs Dooku, just throwing Force abilities around like they were nothing because both of them had tons of points to burn.

Lightsaber Parrying: A lightsaber's Parry DV can be used to deflect energy attacks (blaster bolts, Force lightning, et alia). By spending 1 Legend Point, a Force-user who has successfully parried can make a Dexterity + Melee attack when parrying and reflect that energy attack at a target. The damage code is calculated off the damage code of the weapon and Wits of the Force user. [Light]

Lightside

Jedi and other lightsiders use the Integrity skill on to-hit rolls with the Force, representing their use of mental disciplines to hone their power.

There are no “Light Side” points that accumulate for doing good deeds or using Force powers in nice ways.

When a character's Dark Side points are less than his or her Legend rating, that character is considered to be of the Light Side. He may be “Gray” to some degree, but he is still Lightside.

Using the Force for (Knowledge and) Defense: As a Light Side character, you draw your power from emotional serenity. Whenever you stunt will using use the Force in a defensive manner (such as parrying a blaster bolt with your lightsaber), you regain +1 Legend Points upon completion of the action, on top of the bonus from the stunt itself. This also counts when defending another living being.

Darkside

Sith and other darksiders use the Fortitude skill on to-hit rolls with the Force, representing the channeling of raw passion into power.

A character accumulates one “Dark Side” point for doing any of the following in a scene:

  • Killing an innocent (GM discretion)
  • Using the Force to do direct damage (ex: Force Crush, Force Lightning, violence through Dominate)

When a character's Dark Side points equal his or her Legend rating, the Dark Side has dominated that character's destiny. The character is now considered to be of the Dark Side. When the character earns an additional Legend Rating they have a chance at redemption, if they don't run out and immediately get a Dark Side point.

No, Dark Side points never go away. You earned them, so you keep them.

Using the Force for Attack: Why is the Dark Side quicker, easier, and more seductive? Because when you are officially Dark and perform a stunt, every new Dark Side point you earn (such as making an attack using the Force) also gives you +1 Legend Point right on the spot, cumulative with the LPs earned from the stunt itself. Your eyes also turn an unnatural yellow, orange, or red for that scene (if applicable to your species).

Grayside (aka Revanite)

The followers of Revan, and other “gray” Force-users, tread the most difficult path possible. They are constantly struggling through an internal war of both serenity and passion, making every moment a mental paradox of mystical cognitive dissonance. They must work the hardest to maintain balance between the Light and the Dark, but as a result they have the greatest potential flexibility in how they use their Force talents.

Just because you are technically a Light Side character and earn a few Dark Side points does not automatically make you a Revanite. You must study with the followers of Revan intensely and learn to create the elusive internal balance that the legendary Force-user taught himself through hardship, focus, and eventual acceptance of his conflicted nature. You must also pay either 5 BP or 10 XP to earn this title and capacity.

Revanites use the lower of their Integrity and Fortitude skills on to-hit rolls with the Force, representing the additional challenge of channeling of both mental discipline and raw passion into power. For this reason, it's a good idea to raise both skills simultaneously since you're capped by the lowest one you have.

As one of the rare “Graysiders,” you have the unique ability to purge yourself of Dark Side points. You do this through intensive self-reflection, self-loathing, and self-forgiveness… and by paying 1 XP per Dark Side point you wish to purge. You can never go below 1 Dark Side point, however; some portion of the stained energy always lingers.

Revanites do not earn additional Legend Points for stunting with a Force power offensively nor defensively.
