Rathimund is smarter than he thinks he is. Growing up, when all of the other privileged children were pursuing interests in riding or hunting, Rathimund was spending his time studying. This, plus the fact that he was never particularly big or strong as a child, earned him a lot of grief from his peers, so he quickly learned to conceal his intellect when in “normal” company. Rathimund prefers to cultivate the persona of a brash young Fire-aspect that likes to shoot first, shoot later, shoot some more, then when everything's burned to the ground try to ask a question or two. He never lost his keen interest in learning, however. He's especially interested in all aspects of sorcery and the legendary works of the First Age.

For all of his smarts, Rathimund doesn't know much about dealing with others. He's reasonably friendly, and tends to see humor in everything, but he doesn't much enjoy social interactions and he hates crowds (this has been further reinforced with past incidents of him causing things to burst into flames around him). He particularly hates bullies and others that prey upon the weak, and he has a bit of a cruel streak reserved for those sorts.
