How Cassie probably looks normally/groomed. Family: Cassie's father, Sakai Seiji, was Masayuman, and her mother, Shalleah Hyaranon, was Lower Thalian. While her mother was just a village girl born and raised in the small town of Traubin as far as Cassie remembers, she is known to possess an ethereal beauty, with shining golden hair and eyes the color of the summer sky (although Cassie seemed to inherit none of those qualities of hers). Her father, that she can vaguely recall, was obviously foreign and seemed to have an air of nobility about him. She can recall some of the Masayuman language that he taught her as a child, but not enough to be anywhere near fluent. Both of her parents happened to be out of town during the raid; Cassie had been staying with Boyce and his father. Cassie herself doesn't remember much about the raid itself, other than Boyce trying to valiantly defend her, but was, in the end, too young to be effective against armed adult men. Because her parents were out of town at the time, she can only assume that they are still alive. She had no siblings at the time of the raid, but her parents have since had two more children: Yuuji (boy, currently 12) and Erinthe (girl, currently 8). Cassie knows nothing about these siblings of hers.

Background: Cassie doesn't remember much of her childhood before she was taken to the Upper Thalian mines. Just pleasant visions of her parents faces that have faded from her memory over the years. What she can recall of them seems to brighten her mood, so they must've loved each other and her as well. The mines, well, what can you really say about an Upper Thalian slave camp? They lived in the most miserable of conditions, were treated worse than dogs, and it's amazing that she managed to survive them. While still young and small, she was sent down the shafts to extract shineys from the veins in the walls. When she grew too big, she was assigned to tend the stables and horses in the camp. Like most girls who survived dark shafts of the mine, by the time she was 12 she was no longer a virgin, and not by her choice, of course. The most she could do was try to remain out of sight where possible, and just let whoever it was get it over with when she couldn't hide. After enduring several years of this, she and many of her fellow slaves were able to eventually escape.

Many of the escaped slaves came to Alestia where they were adopted by various folk; she and Boyce, Grey, and Trent were adopted by the owner of an inn called the Occluded Rainbow Inn. The owner's name was Bagram Fossil, and he had two kids about their same ages, Liri and Doak. As if it were almost automatic, Cassie took over management of the stables at the Inn with nary a word. In fact, her room is a small walled off area in the back of the stable building itself.

Once free of the slavers, Cassie made herself a promise that she would never be anyone's slave, anyone's plaything, ever again. And to that end she sought to learn the ways of the blade and the whip, things people had used in the Upper Thalian slave camp to exert power over her and others. No longer would she be afraid of such weapons, she would instead master them herself. So, she set about a few things of personal interest to her once she arrived in Alestia: sword training, whip training, and Masayuman language training. She headed to the Masayuman district of Alestia City, where she was able to find an older widow by the name of Arashikage Kanae who was willing to teach her the language of her father's homeland for a minimal fee. It was Kanae in fact who later recommended to Cassie someone she knew who could teach her the defensive training she was looking for. His name was Vikram Jayaraman, and as she learned much later, he was supposedly a cavalry captain in exile from his homeland of Hanarajah. She also met someone named Koga Akira through Kanae, who was teaching him calligraphy right before her language lessons. The two took to each other pretty quickly, but their relationship was forced to end abruptly about a year later due to an arranged marriage forced upon Akira by his parents. This was a bit of an eye-opener to Cassie, showing her how little consequence an orphan is considered amongst nobility or those who see themselves as such.

Yessss Spare Time: Cassie is generally a workaholic, always doing some sort of chore. Once a week she goes down to the horse faire to see if “the one” has come up for auction. To this end, she has been stowing money away for as long as has been free of the slave camp in order to buy her dream horse. She is also in the process of re-learning the language of her father, Masayuman. She goes to language lessons daily, taught by an older lady by the name of Arashikage Kanae. In order to protect herself and those around her, she also goes to daily defensive training, taught by Vikram Jayaraman.

Magical Origins: Cassie has both angelic and nature spirit ancestry in her bloodline. While the angelic influence descended from her mother's side and seemed to manifest in her mother herself, the nature spirit heritage that was passed down in her father's bloodline manifested strongly in Cassie. Cassie's powers were ordained by the black stag, ruler of the woodland realm many centuries ago in Masayume. He had a coat the color of onyx and eyes as green as a leaf, and while walking in human form for a time, mated into her family. This occurred centuries before the angel within her bloodline ever appeared on her mother's side. Cassie's green eyes and black hair reflect the powerful manifestation of the king stag's mythical influence in her.

In her life so far, the king stag has tried to exert some amount of influence over her actions and interests. Cassie does her best to deflect those urges, however. While forests are nice places to visit, she has no desire to live out her life as a stag, guarding the animal kingdom of the woodland realms for all eternity; she craves interaction with other humans far too much. And so she is constantly at war with herself over the direction her life should be taking for the long term. So far her humanity seems to be winning.

While the king stag's blood runs true and strong, Cassie's angelic heritage is not completely silent in her life. It can be noticed, if one manages to separate the nuances, in her magical manifestations: a white aura/halo that surrounds her manifest weapon and her in her nimbus forms. Not even Cassie is aware of this difference. Furthermore, while the king stag's actions tend toward neutrality, her angelic heritage nudges her ever so slightly toward good behavior, when it can. And finally, Cassie may find herself inexplicably attracted to others who bear the mark of a celestial in their own blood line (especially those who carry similar physical features to her mother, whose appearance she has always envied).
